Book News: A Slew of Books Ahead! a.k.a. Books Coming Down the Line!

As promised, if late in the day, let’s take a moment to look at what’s coming in the next couple of months. Today, we’ll specifically highlight books that I am in writing that should start cropping up over the rest of Summer 2017!

  • First up, I am elbow-deep in the second Elements of Wrath Online litRPG book with J. A. Cipriano. This next one is titled The Vale of the Three Wolves and will focus on Shale and Kayla’s mutual quest to find the Ring of Promise and all the soul-searching, questing, and learning about each other that journey will entail. We’re aiming to be done by the end of June, so keep alert for updates as they come along!
  • After that, it’s time to start on the next Dwarf for Hire book! Rune Service has been doing fantastic and it was probably the most fun book for me to write so far. All that means that I am eager to go back to Mary Stone’s misadventures. The next book is tentatively titled Once in a Blue Rune and hopefully will be written by the end of July, then released in August after editing and all that good grid.
  • During that entire two-month spread, I’ll also be working in the off hours on a special collaboration with Suppapong Studios, the source of the great cover art for the print edition of Rune Service. We’re delving into the world of Japanese-style light novels and so far it’s been an amazing experience working on a project that is more of a collaboration with an artist and designer beyond the cover work. As we’re working on this project in between our other contracts and projects, this one may take a little more time to get out but it will definitely be released before year’s end.

From there the magic eight-ball starts to look hazy. Obviously, expect the last Elements of Wrath Online book to be finished by year’s end as well. Whether a third Dwarf for Hire book will hit depends entirely on how things go convention and travel wise by year’s end but we can certainly hope!

Speaking of conventions, expect an update specifically regarding those sometime next week, as well as a return to our Starving Review schedule! Until next time, good reading, good writing, and good luck!

General News: Shaking off the Dust a.k.a. A Hopeful Return to Your Regularly Scheduled Programming

It’s been a bit, hasn’t it?

Well, let’s just say that things have turned into an insane asylum post-Pensacon. A good kind of insanity to be fair … a manic rush to finish a deadline, dealing with a set-up for something huge around the corner, and prepping for what looks to be a busy convention season ahead. There are new projects brewing, bits of which I hope to share with you all soon. Sometime in this mess, I also need to actually, you know, read a book or two for those of you waiting for more reviews.

To make the announcements, though, I have just recently put out a new book, another co-authored project with J. A. Cipriano, and my first toedip into the LitRPG genre. Also, once again, I am honored to be appearing at the end of this month at the Bard’s Tower mobile bookstore, this time at Planet Comic Con in Kansas City.

More news and specifics to come!

Until next time (hopefully far sooner than last), good reading, good writing, and good luck!

General News: Hard At Work! a.k.a. An Updates About Updates?!

Another layer and we’d be at Update Inception.

I’m in the midst of:

  • Getting final bits done and the art in for Rune Service. Yes, it is still coming.
  • Working on a new collaboration of J. A. Cipriano which should come to fruition sometime in March
  • Getting prepped for Pensacon in just a few weeks!
  • Reading two books at once for reviews and such.

So yes, much going on, much knees-bent-advancing behavior. Expect reviews to be posted soon and plenty of up-to-the minute news once Pensacon starts!

Monday Update: Back to Business a.k.a. The Immediate and Near-Future of a Starving Author

The deadlines have been quashed, the burn-out has been put out, and the writing wheels have been greased. It’s time to get on getting on so let’s get back up to speed, as well as map out the near future.

  • First, I hate to announce that I won’t be at Necronomicon at the end of the month. Certain family obligations and financial missteps have made it something I just can’t do. However, I am already planning on being there next year, so fingers crossed.
  • Speaking of 2017 conventions, I hope to have a slew of news about appearances. I’ll definitely be hitting some old haunts and hopefully some new ones.
  • Book releases! As you know, I’ve been working with J. A. Cipriano to release a trilogy of urban fantasy books (Clans of Shadow) which are all now out. I also will be getting out the finale of Three Seconds to LegendThe Twelfth Labor, in Novemeber. Also also, I have a couple of really neat projects in progress. More news on that to come in the near future!
  • Book reviews are coming back! Really! This week even! Expect a fresh Starving Review on Friday.
  • Naturally, expect some more writing articles this Wednesday.
  • In other words, we’re back on track, boys and girls!

As always, until then, good reading, good writing, and good luck!

So, you might have guessed that the Projikt had to do with both writing and author collaboration. Well, you would be totally right!

Called Clans of Shadow, the books follow the adventures of military vet, delivery truck driver, and movie enthusiast Frank Butcher as he finds himself violently thrust into the hidden world of magic in the shadows of our world.

Monday … Starving Review?!: Wardbreaker (The Lillim Callina Chronicles 0.5) by J. A. Cipriano

What the deuce, you might ask?  A review on a Monday?  Well, this is going to be a twofer week, my fine friends, and this review does require a small disclaimer as to why I was able to do it.  To get to the point, I was one of the beta readers for this particular volume, part of a series I have reviewed two previous volumes of (Kill It With Magic and The Hatter Is Mad).  That made it child’s play to fit in a reread of the final edition once it came out alongside my usual review book of the week.

So, let’s get on with the show, eh?

Starving Review: The Hatter is Mad (The Lillim Callina Chronicles Book 2) by J. A. Cipriano

The Hatter is Mad (The Lilim Callina Chronicles Book 2) by J. A. Cipriano (Amazon, Goodreads)

I have to wonder, fellow literary foodies, if you’ve ever had a page-induced sugar rush?  It’s when you jam your face so full of sugary popcorn reading that you continue to maniacally wolf down more and more of the same book, regardless of any sense of literary health.  The pages could be good or they could be horrible but they’re so candy-like that you just can’t stop yourself.  The trick is, at the end of the book, was it good, bad, or just bland in the center?  Welcome to my struggle with The Hatter is Mad!

Before we cut to the core of this dilemma, let’s recall the Starving Author creed:

  1. I attempt to rate every book from the perspective of a fan of the genre.
  2. I attempt to make every review as spoiler-free as possible.
