Convention News: Looking Back at PCKC and Looking Forward to Mobicon!

Time for a quick update! Strap in, folks, it’s time to talk conventions!

As you may likely know, the weekend before last I was honored to be at Planet Comic Con in Kansas City, alongside the incredible Bard’s Tower crew. It was a fun, exciting, and at times crazy stressful week! Greyhound both delayed my trip and then got me to Kansas City days early, forcing all sorts of financial juggling as I hunted down a place to stay that didn’t make me broke, then the first two days of the convention itself were intense. In the end, though, everything worked out for the best: we did solid on sales, I got to enjoy time with my colleagues, and I continue to learn and develop as an author and, to be frank, a salesman.

Important tip to all my fellow writers and authors: You’re not just selling your writing, you’re selling yourself.

As for my next convention, I’ll be flying solo at Mobicon in Mobile, Alabama. It runs the length of Memorial Day weekend so I hope to see you there! Expect more convention news to come in the coming weeks!

Until next time, good reading, good writing, and good luck!

Convention News: On the Ground in Kansas City! a.k.a. Planet Comic Con 2017!

Good news, everyone!

You can see me at Bard’s Tower alongside all my Push Chronicle books this weekend at Planet Comic Con in Kansas City! Buy some books from me or any of the other amazing authors on hand, get autographs and pictures, and enjoy a chat while you’re at it!

In addition, I’ll be flying a solo table at Mobicon 2017 on Memorial Day weekend in Mobile, Alabama. Hope to see y’all at either or (dare I say?!) both conventions! More news to come about new books, releases, and conventions in the weeks ahead!

Monday Musings: MobiCon 2016 After-Action Report!

Well, we are back safe and sound from Mobicon 2016 and it was quite a blast!

I certainly feel like the whole ‘baptism-of-fire’ thing has come and gone. There are certainly things I could have done better, both in planning and in execution, but I’ve been lucky to have gotten tons of advice from my fellow local authors. All in all, things felt like they went well and I certainly felt like I hit a certain groove by late Friday.

The big things I learned to improve on for the future:

  • Get prepared EVEN SOONER. It allows for greater flexibility and fiscal planning.
  • Branded tat! I knew this ahead of time, but I failed to take full advantage due to some last minute changes of planning and unexpected front-end expenses.
  • Incorporate some more three-dimensionality in the displays, both to improve table use and to help catch eyes.

So the next confirmed con visit is Kansas City Comic Con in August! More info and updates to come!

Monday Musings: It’s Almost Time! a.k.a. Mobicon This Weekend

Right, so it’s almost time.  Now, I’ve been to conventions before, even been to conventions for ‘business’ reasons.  The last two Pensacons I’ve attended have been more for promotion and networking than just for the fun of it.  Mobicon, though, will be the first time I’ll be sitting at a table, trying to get you to buy my books.

It’s a step forward, but it’s a step on uncertain ground.  At least psychologically, this could be a make-or-break moment.  It’s one thing to sit back, behind the shield of the internet, and excuse away any lack of success or moments of failure as there’s a certain distance involved.  This, though, will be personal, face-to-face, nitty-gritty.  Basically, this is where I either grow up or drop out.

Well, not so dramatic as that, of course!  While this is a stressful moment, it would also be short sighted to lay everything on one convention, especially my first!  No, while this will remain a big step, it’s entirely a step forward, a step in the right direction.  At worst, it will be a learning experience, letting me know what I need to do for future conventions.  At best, I’ll come home with empty book boxes and the knowledge that I’m doing things the right way.  Either way, it’ll be fun!

In other quick news, my free promotion for Indomitable went like gangbusters.  Just a reminder, though, that all of The Push Chronicles are available for free through Kindle Unlimited.  If you have that, swing by my Released Books list and start reading!  Also, don’t forget that The Songstress Murders will be released at the start of Mobicon!  You can still pre-order your Kindle copy from Amazon.  Physical copies will be available for order around the time of the e-book release.

Until next time, good reading, good writing, and good luck!

Book News: The Songstress Murders Now For Pre-Order!

The Walled City is the wonder of a world reborn, five cities stacked one atop another. The only thing that stands between the normal Folk and the criminals that would prey upon them is the City Watch. Cue Junior Inspector Vela Redmane, lover of life and the lovelies, yet serious about her work as a detective, who finds herself embroiled in one of the weirdest murder cases ever seen in this place of magic. Murder by pleasure, warring gangsters, mysterious mages, and a singing golem are just the start of Redmane’s troubles. The most complicated part of all? The roots of love tangling Vela with both her top suspect and the sorceress who holds all the answers!

It’s time!  You can now pre-order The Songstress Murders, the first of the Inspector Redmane Mysteries!  Head on over to Amazon and grab it before it’s released on May 26,2 016!  Physical copies will be available first at Mobicon in Mobile and then from CreateSpace that weekend!

Weekend Update: A Lot To Come! a.k.a. Busy Week Ahead!

Just a quick Weekend Update here and a bit of Book News too!

Apparently all roads seem to converge on the week ahead.  A certain proof for The Songstress Murders will arrive around Wednesday, stands for the banners should be here then too, and a pile of stock for the conventions ahead as well!  Expect plenty of pictures to come.

Once the proof comes in and I approve it, I’ll be posting up a cover reveal, along with information about pre-ordering.  While my last experience with the pre-order process wasn’t fabulous, I’m going to give it another go this time now that I’m familiar with the experience.  Plus it’s the best way to guarantee my release date of May 27, 2016 works as I will be at Mobicon then.

Much fun, yes.  Also, I’ll be moving ahead with the next cycle of The Push Chronicles as well as the next Vela Redmane Mystery in the weeks ahead.  The next book of Three Seconds To Legend, while written, is at the mercy of my publisher for actual release.  One thing I will say for self-publishing … you are the master of your schedule!

So strap in and wait for plenty of news to come in the week ahead!

Convention News: Flying The Colors! a.k.a. Banners!

Mmm, sweet sweet promotional material!

So my first booth banners came in today!  Of course, the STANDS are still in the middle of shipping but you can still enjoy these impromptu pics framed by my sweet bed.  You’ll see these banners fly for the first time in public in May at Mobicon!

Weekend Update: Busy Is As Busy Does a.k.a. About The Lack of Updates

Yes, I’m a bit … well … a full week behind schedule.

I know it’s horrible of me.  That’s a book review and a writing article I owe you fine people, but trust me in that I will make good on my debts.  The reasons for my tardiness are, at least, pure ones.

The final edits and cover art for The Songstress Murders are just about done.  I will let you fine people know when pre-orders will be available (yes, despite the fact that it was horribly clunky last time, I’m going to try it again!) with the official debut to coincide with Mobicon at the end of May.  Expect a few articles about it and a revised sneak peek to hit this blog in the coming weeks!

Also, a lot of prep work has been laid this past week for my big convention debuts, which of course means a lot of time away from the keyboard.  In the coming weeks, the rest of my stock will come in and I should have some fun pictures to share of the promotional material as it comes in.  Hopefully it will wet your whistle!

In addition, expect some additional pages to be added to the site in the coming week.  At the very least, a live appearances page will go up, with listings  of all my convention stops and a link page (yes, much delayed!) with links to fellow authors I collaborate with or particularly like and other things, such as local Pensacola businesses you can buy my books at.

So, yes, the party is about to start back up!  Sorry for leaving y’all in the cold for so long!
