Pensacon

General News: Shaking off the Dust a.k.a. A Hopeful Return to Your Regularly Scheduled Programming

It’s been a bit, hasn’t it?

Well, let’s just say that things have turned into an insane asylum post-Pensacon. A good kind of insanity to be fair … a manic rush to finish a deadline, dealing with a set-up for something huge around the corner, and prepping for what looks to be a busy convention season ahead. There are new projects brewing, bits of which I hope to share with you all soon. Sometime in this mess, I also need to actually, you know, read a book or two for those of you waiting for more reviews.

To make the announcements, though, I have just recently put out a new book, another co-authored project with J. A. Cipriano, and my first toedip into the LitRPG genre. Also, once again, I am honored to be appearing at the end of this month at the Bard’s Tower mobile bookstore, this time at Planet Comic Con in Kansas City.

More news and specifics to come!

Until next time (hopefully far sooner than last), good reading, good writing, and good luck!

General News: Hard At Work! a.k.a. An Updates About Updates?!

Another layer and we’d be at Update Inception.

I’m in the midst of:

  • Getting final bits done and the art in for Rune Service. Yes, it is still coming.
  • Working on a new collaboration of J. A. Cipriano which should come to fruition sometime in March
  • Getting prepped for Pensacon in just a few weeks!
  • Reading two books at once for reviews and such.

So yes, much going on, much knees-bent-advancing behavior. Expect reviews to be posted soon and plenty of up-to-the minute news once Pensacon starts!

General News: A Week of Sick (Not The Cool 90’s Kind of Sick)! a.k.a. Recovery and Getting Back to Work

So it’s been quiet around here for a little bit after my last big announcement and I apologize for that. Unfortunately, unlike some silences, this one wasn’t for a good reason as I’ve been sick as all get out for a bit. Thankfully, I’m now back to maybe 80 percent, which means things are about to get back to business.

Some quick updates on what little I have managed to accomplish in the meantime:

  • Rune Service has been moved back to later this month. The manuscript is tight, the editing is just about done, and the art is on its way!
  • Everything is on course for Pensacon! My stock should be in next week, as well as some fresh new business cards. My excitement continues to grow!
  • I did get some reading and some listening done while I was convalescing. We will have both a Starving Review and a Starving Audioreview this coming week, maybe even TWO Reviews.
  • My schedule is also heating up as I enter into some new writing and editing contracts this month. That may mean we’ll be sticking to the bare basics in terms of updates until these deadlines are met. Wish me luck!

Thank you for your patience in this regard! Expect new content by the end of the week and until then, good reading, good writing, and good luck!

Convention News: I Kept It A Secret For SO LONG! a.k.a. Pensacon 2017 alongside WordFire Press!

So I’ve been a naughty minx for quite sometime. I have had a secret tended in its little box for months now but now I have the go ahead to reveal it to the world at large.

You may (or may not) have been wondering why I haven’t mentioned any conventions this year. Part of that has been planning and finances but the real, big reason is that I have received the honor and privilege of an invitation to appear at Pensacon 2017 alongside the amazing authors of WordFire Press and have the chance to sell my works alongside theirs!

This is a huge moment for me. We’re talking rubbing elbows with the likes of Kevin J. Anderson, Dave Butler, Robin Hobb, and Mercedes Lackey! More than that, it’s being given a seat (if only for a few days) at a table with this caliber of author. It might even be the start of a brand new stretch of my writing career.

So I hope to see you there in February! Thank you for all your support and wish me luck!

Monday Musings: It’s Almost Time! a.k.a. Mobicon This Weekend

Right, so it’s almost time.  Now, I’ve been to conventions before, even been to conventions for ‘business’ reasons.  The last two Pensacons I’ve attended have been more for promotion and networking than just for the fun of it.  Mobicon, though, will be the first time I’ll be sitting at a table, trying to get you to buy my books.

It’s a step forward, but it’s a step on uncertain ground.  At least psychologically, this could be a make-or-break moment.  It’s one thing to sit back, behind the shield of the internet, and excuse away any lack of success or moments of failure as there’s a certain distance involved.  This, though, will be personal, face-to-face, nitty-gritty.  Basically, this is where I either grow up or drop out.

Well, not so dramatic as that, of course!  While this is a stressful moment, it would also be short sighted to lay everything on one convention, especially my first!  No, while this will remain a big step, it’s entirely a step forward, a step in the right direction.  At worst, it will be a learning experience, letting me know what I need to do for future conventions.  At best, I’ll come home with empty book boxes and the knowledge that I’m doing things the right way.  Either way, it’ll be fun!

In other quick news, my free promotion for Indomitable went like gangbusters.  Just a reminder, though, that all of The Push Chronicles are available for free through Kindle Unlimited.  If you have that, swing by my Released Books list and start reading!  Also, don’t forget that The Songstress Murders will be released at the start of Mobicon!  You can still pre-order your Kindle copy from Amazon.  Physical copies will be available for order around the time of the e-book release.

Until next time, good reading, good writing, and good luck!

A Very Different Episode of Writing Is A Bad Habit: Cashing In Some Chips a.k.a. An Open Request For Insights On Community And Promotion

For the few of you who have followed this blog over the years, you have seen the reviews I have written (almost a hundred now!) and the piles of writing articles and authorial musings I have put to electronic paper.  I hope by now I have established my desire to help out my fellow authors and writers, to try to provide services to help them improve and thrive, and be an over-all stand-up guy.  As this is a Wednesday, I would normally be adding to that pile of work with some fresh insights on writing.  Today, though, as the title indicates, is a very different Writing Is A Bad Habit, because I feel the need to turn the normal purpose of this series on its head.

Starving Review Preview: Hometown Pride, HO! a.k.a. Local Author Reviews Coming!

Just a quick, additional update to prepare you, my literary foodies, for the weeks to come!

Starting next week, I’ll be tackling the pile of books from local authors I bought/received during Pensacon this year.  As you all know, I love my fellow creators, starting both my review service and editing services with aiding the indie writer and the local writer out.  This is just a natural extension of that!

I have five delightful authors to go through, staring with the ever-lovable S. Usher Evans and the first book of her Raiza series, Double Life I hope you all enjoy and find a fresh new author to love!

Convention News: First Interview, Yo! a.k.a. My Time with Chimichanga Talk!

I sit down and talk about indie authors and, of course, my own books with Deadpool Speaks and Dr. Ehvil Bheard!  Don’t stop with me, though!  There’s plenty more interviews with other authors from Pensacon on the Chimachanga Talk YouTube channel!
