Book News: Happy Thanksgiving! Have A Book Sale!

First off, as the title suggests, I want to wish everyone out there a happy Thanksgiving, assuming you celebrate that holiday in your neck of the world. Even if you don’t, have a happy Thursday!

Second, because of said holiday, tomorrow’s Starving Review might be delayed a day or two, but it will be coming soon on the heels of Friday.

Lastly, and perhaps most importantly in general, all of my solo titles will be going on SALE starting tomorrow! Black Friday, baby!

Book News: A Scouted Review! a.k.a. Jada Ryker and The Songstress Murders

Here’s a cool one!

Jada Ryker, winner of the 2016 Kindle Scout contract, threw out a review of The Songstress Murders the other day. Take a look!

General News: It’s Been Too Long! a.k.a. No Excuses But Life’s Been Crazy!

Right, so it’s been a while, friends.

Two books released, a very fun and profitable convention, and another manuscript baking in the oven as we speak. Meanwhile, I’ve been silent.

Well, all I can say is that everything has been crazy. There’s been moving (not myself, but others), cleaning, a bout or two of sickness, and a pulled shoulder. Oh, and FIFTY-FOUR HOURS ON A GREYHOUND BUS!

I can’t stress that last thing enough.

It’s enough to strain the soul!

But I’m back now. Crap is going to get done. I have two more books coming this year at the very minimum. Namely the next book of the Cults of ShadowFists of Iron, and the last book of Three Seconds to LegendThe Twelfth Labor. And don’t worry, the second Inspector Redmane MysteryPackie’s Problem, is still coming and I have a special new project in the works, a light novel actually, but we’ll save more info on that for later.

We’re still going to be light on Starving Reviews until November, when my last deadline for the year is done, but I have multiple books lined up and partly read, so they’ll come quickly then.

Oh, and finally, the Released Books and Upcoming Books are updated! Go there for links to grab my latest releases, like The Tale of the Tape and Feet of Clay.

Until next time, good reading, good writing, and good luck!

Monday Musings: It’s Almost Time! a.k.a. Mobicon This Weekend

Right, so it’s almost time.  Now, I’ve been to conventions before, even been to conventions for ‘business’ reasons.  The last two Pensacons I’ve attended have been more for promotion and networking than just for the fun of it.  Mobicon, though, will be the first time I’ll be sitting at a table, trying to get you to buy my books.

It’s a step forward, but it’s a step on uncertain ground.  At least psychologically, this could be a make-or-break moment.  It’s one thing to sit back, behind the shield of the internet, and excuse away any lack of success or moments of failure as there’s a certain distance involved.  This, though, will be personal, face-to-face, nitty-gritty.  Basically, this is where I either grow up or drop out.

Well, not so dramatic as that, of course!  While this is a stressful moment, it would also be short sighted to lay everything on one convention, especially my first!  No, while this will remain a big step, it’s entirely a step forward, a step in the right direction.  At worst, it will be a learning experience, letting me know what I need to do for future conventions.  At best, I’ll come home with empty book boxes and the knowledge that I’m doing things the right way.  Either way, it’ll be fun!

In other quick news, my free promotion for Indomitable went like gangbusters.  Just a reminder, though, that all of The Push Chronicles are available for free through Kindle Unlimited.  If you have that, swing by my Released Books list and start reading!  Also, don’t forget that The Songstress Murders will be released at the start of Mobicon!  You can still pre-order your Kindle copy from Amazon.  Physical copies will be available for order around the time of the e-book release.

Until next time, good reading, good writing, and good luck!

The World Of The Songstress Murders: Exposition Position! a.k.a. Types of Exposition And How To Use Them!

Today, we finish up (probably) a series of articles and podcasts in relation to my next book, The Songstress Murders, available for pre-order now!  Our topic of the moment is exposition, various types of that, and how it relates to genre fiction and world-building!

Enjoy!

The World Of The Songstress Murders: That Old Timey Religion! a.k.a. Religion, Culture, and Characters

This week’s The World Of .. focuses on fantasy gods and religions, as well as how those things can influence and inform us about the cultures and characters in those worlds, using examples from my next book, The Songstress Murders!

Remember, there’s a little less than two weeks left to get your pre-order of The Songstress Murders!

The World Of … : The Songstress Murders – Mixing Mystery, Romance, and Magic! a.k.a. Genre Fusion

For the next few weeks, Wednesdays will be focused on the lead-up to the full release of my latest book, The Songstress Murders, which you can pre-order from Amazon at THIS LINK.  So, without further ado, let’s get into The World Of The Songstress Murders!

Genre fusion is something that is pretty old-hat by now.  It’s like chocolate and peanut butter; mixing the right taste combinations creates something greater than the individual ingredients.  It’s at the very core of cooking, be it for food or for new literary cuisine. The Songstress Murders is no different.

But as with most elements of writing, genres and their fusions have to be handled properly.  Each genre brings with it certain core elements and genre conventions, as well as certain preconceptions brought to the tale by the reader herself.  To write a genre tale well involves understanding these themes and elements, as well as how to both cater to and play with the reader’s expectations.  One must balance both embracing the genre and creating a unique and interesting interpretation of said genre.  Rehashing the same formula, even if it is a tried-and-true formula, gets tiresome for readers after a while.
